Halloween 2008

Halloween has come and gone in our house. And what a day it was! The girls were all ready with costumes in their backbacks for going to school. No makeup was allowed at school so that was bit of a bummer but that's the rules. I spent the day while the kids were at school figuring out how to make a set of chaps for my little cowboy. (Thought I did pretty well too!) You probably can't tell from the picture but there are fringes down the outside of the chaps. The kids usually pick out what they want to be and I try to figure out how to get it done. Abigail was a cat. Emily was a vampire. (Do kids ever get tired of this costume??) Samuel was my indecisive one. He wanted to be a pirate, then a cowboy then a ghost, then a cowboy again . . .I put my foot down- Cowboy it is! All the kids' costumes turned out great and they all had a wonderful time! Got lots of candy and walked about 1/2 a mile! We trick-or-treated in town this year!! It was absolutely beatiful this year! No coats, no mittens, not even a blowing wind!! It was great!

Now for my favorite event from Halloween night - Funny Stories!
The best story of Halloween was from Samuel.
We approached a house with a wide front porch. A lady was sitting on the right side of the stairs with a bucket of goodies. Samuel goes up the steps, turns to the lady and says ,"Trick-or-Treat!"
She, in turn hands him a wrapped toothbrush.
Samuel pushes it back.
She gives the toothbrush to him again.
Samuel again pushes it back.
This happens two more times.
Finally the lady days, "IF you want candy you have to ask him." and she points behind Samuel to the other side of the porch.
Behind Samuel was a man sitting in a porch swing, dressed in a suit with a chrome-like gorilla mask. Samuel never fully turned around, instead he stopped about half-way turned with shoulders hunched, clutching his trick-or-treating basket, then ever so slyly he reaches into his gun holster . . . . . . and slowly pulls his gun out . . . . . . . fumbles with the gun . . . . . takes the time to aim . . . . . . . then shoots the gorilla!!
The guy acts as if he was shot and then sits up.
Sam shoots again.
Again the guy acts as if he was shot.
Sam shoots a third time!
The guy acts as if he was shot and then slowly stands up and starts to slowly walk towards Sam.
At this turn of events, Samuel squares his shoulders to the approaching gorilla-masked guy and proceeds to just shoot this guy ---- bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!! I about fell over laughing!! I ended up having to go get Samuel off the porch!
And Samuel still got the toothbrush. But no candy.
